Dr. Richard Anantua from UTSA will be telling us about his role in imaging the black hole at the center of our galaxy, and Jackie Champagne from UT Austin will be teaching us about radio interferometry, the technique that was used to acquire it!

Bio: Jeffrey Bennett holds a B.A. in Biophysics from the University of California at San Diego and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Astrophysics from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He specializes in mathematics and science education, writing for and speaking to audiences ranging from elementary school children to college faculty. His current projects include the Story Time From Space program, which features his six children’s books being read by astronauts from the International Space Station, the free app “Totality by Big Kid Science” that will help you get ready for the upcoming solar eclipses in 2023 and 2024, building scale model solar systems through the Voyage National Program, and a free online textbook for middle school Earth & Space Science. Presenter: Frederic Allegrini Title: The nightlife of a space nerd Bio: Frederic grew up in Switzerland and got his astro bug… well… when he was a small kid. He was fascinated by rockets and had the dream of building a big one. Today, he is not quite building rockets, but has built or has contributed to a bunch of scientific instruments that are flying into space. His father, a photographer, instilled curiosity by giving him a camera as a present at a young age. Later, Frederic took pleasure in exploring the night skies with his telescope. All of these interests and passions merged into night- and astro-photography. He is fascinated by shapes, textures, and colors. He recently started focusing on all the wonderful things we have on Earth and in the sky, and put them in relation.
